In the UK we live on an island surrounded by the sea. The colours, textures, light and features of our coastline are inspiring for textile artists and makers. Using coastal plants, shells and beach huts as inspiration, the aim is to produce a central image, collaged and added to with lace, ribbon and stitch. 

In this two-day workshop you will learn how to layer fabrics and make detailed additions to your composition. Hunt through your collections to find coastal coloured fabrics, old embroidered snippets of tea cloths or handkerchiefs and also any images of the coast that inspire you. It’s also helpful to think about colours and choose what elements you would like to focus on beforehand. Sewing machines are helpful but not necessary, and this workshop is suitable for participants with all levels of experience.
