"Gathering so much talent in one place is wonderful but I find it hard to choose which classes I will take..."
How Bath Textile Summer School Started
Founder Lynne shares how it came about...
The idea for the Summer School was born in 2012 when I invited embroiderers Nikki Delport-Weppener and Lesley Turpin-Delport down to my workshop to take a small class in stumpwork. We chatted about how sad it was that Urchfont was closing, where I had enjoyed classes with Jane Rowe years ago. They told us about Koala conventions in Australia where many tutors teach an amazing number of classes over a week or so. This got me thinking… and here we are for our sixth summer of workshops in the city of Bath. Gathering so much talent in one place is wonderful but I do find it hard to choose the classes I will take. I always like to join in!
With textile workshops in full swing, I turned to my other passion to create the Bath Painting Summer School. It's been a priviledge to bring the very best art tutors to this historic city too.
Michael, my husband, and I have been making artist dolls in Bath for over 35 years (www.roche-dolls.co.uk); we still do but I am trying also to spend more time on my own artwork, both painting and textile. I studied painting at Camberwell Art School in London.
